It’s pretty hard not to fall in love with the Scandinavian aesthetic. Simple, clean lines. Minimal, classic design. But, if you prefer a little bit of added texture and comfort with your Scandi interior, then combining it with a rustic vibe is exactly what you need, and this new book by Reena Simon and Rebecca Lawson provides an abundance of inspiration to get this look just right….

It’s not just about the ‘look’ though, the interiors in this book demonstrate how designing a Scandi Rustic home, naturally creates a space that nurtures your well-being and promotes a sense of contentment. The use of natural materials such as wood, linen and bamboo gives your space warmth and create a complementing colour palette of subtle, earthy tones such as grey, off white, blush, terracotta and soft greens and blues.

I love how these homes have stripped the buildings back to the bare bones, accentuating elements such as ceiling beams and leaving walls with the raw plaster effect or cladding with reclaimed wood. It is one way to bring texture to a space before you’ve even introduced textiles.

Textiles are of course essential in every home, but particularly with this rustic look, they help to soften those raw surfaces, so don’t hold back. Opt for subtle colours and materials such as linen, sheepskin, wool and jute. In the book, you will find crumpled linens and soft sheepskins galore, making you just want to dive in and snuggle up.

Introducing plants and dried flowers, displayed in terracotta and ceramic pots and vases will add even more texture and life to the space. Vintage furniture, lighting and decorative items tend to feature heavily in a Scandi Rustic home, and is a more environmentally-friendly way to furnish your home. There is just so much to love about the Scandi Rustic aesthetic, and you don’t have to live in a log cabin to achieve it. As shown in the book, it works in pretty much every style of home. So grab yourself a copy and prepare to swoon!
